In 2010, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles auditioned as solo candidates for The X Factor. Unfortunately, they failed to progress to the Boys category and they were put together as a five-piece boy band at Wembley Arena on July 2010 in London.

And now, as y'all already knew, they're One Direction, the biggest boy band on the planet! Find out what you didn't know about them before! Well.. what are they

1. Coldplay Love

Harry Styles' favorite music groups are The Beatles and Coldplay. In a recent interview, Coldplay's Chris Martin said he thought One Direction was brilliant and that he had a man crush on Styles. Martin told BBC 1 Radio when he met Styles, "I was like this, 'I was pretty sure I was a straight guy before' — I was having a hot flush."

2.  Da Pimp

Before One Direction became a cultural phenomenon, Niall Horan's e-mail address was da_pimp_is_here@hotmail.com. Da pimp? Some might see this as a self-fulfilled prophecy.

3. Olympic Gold

Before Payne went in one direction with One Direction, he dreamed of being an Olympic runner. As a youngster, he was the third best 1500-meter runner in his age group in England.

4. Liam’s style is the most improved

“I do push the boys, and you can see it with someone like Liam. When I first started working with them — and he’ll tell you the same — he wouldn’t want to wear any color, any patterns or stripes. He knew what he wanted — grays, blues, blacks. That was it. And I don’t know what happened … I think we broke for the summer and he came back to work and I was like, ‘Liam, what happened to you? Did you go through the Hot Tub Time Machine and come back out? You’re sizzling like bacon right now! What’s happened?'

5. Harry’s never been a fan of shirt buttons
“Harry will always be Harry and he will always do his thing. (Harry’s been undoing his buttons since the first single!) He’s coming into his own now, but it’s always been like that. And will always be like that. For me, it’s nothing new. He’s just got a lot older and a lot hotter, I guess.”

6. Louis has the most easy-going style
“I love working with someone like Louis as well, because Louis is very laid-back in his style. And he’s from up north, so he’s into quite vintage-looking stuff.”

7. Niall is the least interested in clothes … and has yet to be name-checked on GQ UK's style list

“Poor thing. I said to him, ‘Well, you’re wearing boots now, so maybe this year!’ We’re rooting for him this year. He’s like, ‘Caroline, leave me alone,’ and I’m like, ‘Listen, we’ve got you in boots, we’re pushing you!'”
